Hi,
The work on the first blue AS1 is done, we chose to keep the tank that we had before since it better matched the paint on the rest of the parts so the colour is not quite original. All the screws, wires and electrical wires have been replaces with fresh NOS ones. The difference might seem small at first glance but the whole thing feels better than it did before! We'll make sure to get a new gallery up as soon as possible.

At the moment we've got a number of bikes waiting to get photographed, the plan is to snap new pictures when the museum is done. Until then we haven't got any good placed to take pictures. It's not just the regular Yamahas that are waiting to get photographed but also a Honda CB750 and a couple of other surprises!

We've also continued work on the orange AS3. Unlike the AS1 the AS3 has been out on the roads and need more work.

We received a new AS1 from Germany. It was a real bargain, it wasn't listed properly on ebay and would only show up on ebay.de. As such it was a fraction of the price it would normally fetch. The seat is surprisingly fresh, apart from a small tear in the cover all it needs is a cleaning. The base is completely free of rust as well!

A few weeks ago we had some pictures of regalvanized parts, a lot of them were from old used fuel taps we had collected. Since then we've reassembling them with surprisingly good results. It's hard to believe that they're used. They're fixed with new gaskets and filters, the aluminium parts has been cleaned with acid and the plate has been regalvanized.

Hi,
As I mentioned last time the electricity in the museum is fixed, all the needed light fixtures and wall sockets are there now. During this week the floor and climate control guys will get to work with that. Given that it is an old farm building, all the power needs to be up to spec to handle harsh environments with lots of dust and moisture (not that we'll have a lot of either...), therefore all the switches are linked directly to relays in the sealed box on the ceiling to cut power completely when you hit the switch. First time I turned the light on I was afraid I the fusebox had exploded, those relays are NOT quiet!

We're taking another look at a few of the projects we did back in the start of the site. We did them before we really had access to all the parts we have today so a lot of the small details are a bit off. It's mostly the nuts and bolts we've used that are the wrong model, newer ones with markings on the head and plastic non-slip discs. The blue AS1 is actually the first project we put on the site, we were almost done so it's just the final few steps that we have chronicled.  We had restored the orange AS3 before we started the site.

We'll strip them down and make sure they're up to spec with the restorations we do now, some parts will get replaced like the bolts and we'll probably repaint the frame for the AS1 but they're mostly good.

And on that subject: the AS2J from france that we got a few weeks back is done! We've had to replace some parts like the meters and the handle but the majority is just the old parts with a good layer of cleaning and polishing. Sometime in the past the bike has probably been in a light accident that destroyed the original meters and damaged the housing for the front light.

Now that it's back together we took it out for a test: the engine runs perfectly, it's good in idle and it revs smoothly all the way up to the top. On the short street we drove it on it hit 70kh/h without problems and lifted the front wheel of the ground. Not bad for a 40 year old bike!

Hi,
Well, have we got great news today: the electricity in the soon to be complete museum is now wired and working! This brings us one step closer to getting things up and running. If all goes to plan the floor will get cast during this week. That means that pretty much within a month we could have everything ready. Expect lots of pictures (though not today, forgot to bring the camera...).

What we do have some more pictures of is the AS2J that arrived last time from France. We stripped it down, polished and cleaned everything along with replacing a few odd bits with original Yamaha parts. I think this is the first time that we have ever had a complete bike laid out in parts at once,  usually we have to wait for parts that are away to be restored.  The working time between the first photos to the last ones is less that two hours, assembly really flies when you've got everything prepared in advance!

Just a word of advice with the Flickr slideshow below: the slideshow I can embed on the site only has low resolution images with heavy compression meaning that most of the detail is lost. If you want to see a sharper version in higher resolution - click the name of the gallery next to the Flickr logo in the top left corner of the slideshow and it will take you to the pictures on Flickr. You can also press the name of the gallery right away before starting the slideshow and it will take you to the pictures.

Hi,
Today we received a brand new AS2J from a seller in France. There's quite a difference between this one and the last few we've received mainly that this one is not a heap of rusted parts! The paint isn't even faded by sunlight. On top of that it started with the very first kick when we got it.

We've also got the engine block for the AS1 project back som getting polished so now we can hopefully make some progress with that. At the same time they fixed our engine block we sent a few pairs of cylinder heads along to see what the result would be and I have to say that they look better than I expected they would. When we sent them off they were some of the worst ones we had, spraypainted and dirty, but they look pretty much like they're new now. They are slightly more shiny than NOS parts but nowhere near as bad as they can get in some cases.

We also got a big load of parts back from getting galvanized with a new layer of zinc. It cost a grand total of 250 SEK (about 25 euro) to get all of them done, a bargain to make old parts look like new. The main problem is that you have to clean them and strip them of their original coat of zinc completely before they can put a new layer on. That takes a whole lot of scrubbing and some work with acids but the end result is worth is. Now we just have to find the time to do this with all the parts in our old screw drawer...

Today we're trying out something new: instead of hosting the pictures on the site using the regular gallery we're going to try hosting them on Flickr. The gallery of pictures is embeded below!

Hi,
The bad weather recently and the fact that the holiday is over means it's time to get back to restoring bikes and not just driving them!

To start off: we've received a number of new bikes during the last few weeks, we still haven't decided what to do with most of them but in order to get more parts ready to send to Smethurst for chroming and various other restorations, two of them have been disassembled. You can read about the process and check out the pictures of it in the projects tab. Since we haven't decided what to do with them yet they can be seen directly if you press 'Projects' or follow this link to them!

Earlier today we also got a shipment of parts from the US: a whole batch of NOS steering adjusters!

Hi!
Today we have an update of the 'AS3 'Titan'': some small touches to bring it closer to completion.

As I wrote a while back we received a huge load of Yamaha guides from our friend Graham a little while back. Since the last few weeks we've been hard at work digitizing them. Since they're fragile you can't mash them in a scanner and get it done that way, instead we're taking pictures of every page of every guide using an old video support to hold the camera. Originaly it was used to get companies logos into commercials by filming them with a camera, it works equally well with still images! We've managed to get through a big part of the guides but there's still plenty of work left.

Unfortunately that will have to wait a while: Ole has already gone away on holiday and I will as well in a few days. We'll both be gone the coming two weeks, in that time we'll be a bit slower than usual with answering emails but don't worry, we will keep an eye on the inbox!

Hello,
At last we've got the engine for the AS3 'Titan' ready so the project can continue, you can check out the latest progress in the project! There's nothing more holding that project up now so hopefully everything will go smoothly.

We've also had a bit of luck: we have managed to get our hands on 38 NOS checkerflag emblems! We had completely run out of original checkerflags before we found this batch. Even though finds like these are getting rarer, good things are still out there hidden away in storage.

Hi,
Unfortunately we haven't made much progress in the projects as of late, we're waiting on the engines for both bikes. Hopefully we'll get the engine soon so we'll be able to finish the projects.

In the meantime we've been sent pictures from people we've been in contact with from both sides of the world. During the spring we've been helping our friend Martin here in Sweden restore his AS1, well, it's all done now, just in time for the season!

Hi,
A few days ago we received a shipment from England, not only was there a few AS3s that we'll cover in a while: there were something far more precious as well!

Over the past few years, almost from the start of Yamaparts, we've had help from Graham Head in the UK with all manner of things concerning the bikes. In this last shipment Graham sent all the parts lists, rider's manuals, service manuals and a number of even more rare documents including a very rare old numbers to new numbers list. It's an absolute mountain of guides for every Yamaha bike from the late 50's and 30 years ahead including a number of them that Yamaha themselves don't have left.

The entire collection of guides will be kept in one piece and get digitized, come summer I'll start the massive work of turning each one of them into PDF-files.

Hi everyone,
I thought we would continue naming the updates after colours that are vaguely related to them, at least for the time being. Tonight we have an update for the 'Titan' AS3, since last time its flasher lenses has changed colour and the wheels have taken on an out of the ordinary look as well. Check it out in the update!

Hi,
Today I did not only bring my camera to the soon to be museum, I managed to get some pictures inside while the sun peeked through the clouds! As you can see, the entire roof is painted, the roof-girders and pillars still remain to be painted white. The three out of four doors in the pictures are getting removed (with a fifth one not pictured, fire safety!). The rear door will be left in place but screwed shut and a new wall built inside. The two inner doors will be completely removed.

The floor also needs to be recast. On both sides of the middle path were feeding troughs cast in concrete. Since I didn't have access to any heavy tools, I and a few friends hacked everything away bit by bit with sledgehammers. It was hard work but quite fun in small doses! That left the edges of the middle path rough and jagged so the entire floor will be cast to the highest existing level of the floor to even everything out.

Now that the ceiling is painted next up is getting an electrician to install all the lights!

Hi everyone.
Tonight we have a new update on the second blue AS1, check it out in the project section!

I'm proud to say that we're yet one step closer to opening the museum. The entire room is now painted, what's left is a bit of work on the floor and some additional electical work. All in all it's starting to come together. Sorry but no pictures of it this time, last time I was there with the camera it was too dark outside to get any decent pictures.

Hi everyone!
First of all, big thanks for everyone who visited us at Yamaha Center during the Yamaha days this past weekend. It was great to meet so many of you. For those of you who didn't get the chance to visit, either because you had other plans or because you're on the other side of the world, we've prepared a special photo update of the event!

On top of that we also have an extraordinary story to tell. Below is Kristian, he works at Yamaha Center Helsingborg. Little over a month ago he was competing in a roadrace in Spain when suddendly, on the fastest straight of the track, the front wheel of his bike locks up!

At over 240 km/h he was thrown of his bike and skid on the pavement for more than 200m. He suffered many bruises and broken bones. After all that he's back on his feet again and back at Yamaha Center! It's great to see him up and running, we all wish him a speedy recovery.

As you can see below, the place was packed even though (of maybe because?) the weather was bad.

Hi Everyone,
A quick update I forgot to write about last time: this weekend it's time for Yamaha Center Helsingborgs annual Yamaha days event with special offers, events and test drives. Once again this year we will be there and show a few select bikes from our collection. If you're close enough to drive I would recommend a visit, it's always great. Check out this link for more information.

At the moment I'm away at a course about running a museum, yet another step on the path to open the museum!

Hi,
We have a new update on our second blue AS1 project. A while back we started the project based on our previous AS1 'Drive' project, we decided to do a complete restoration. Well, now the time has come to begin, we've just got the frame back from paint and have begun our work. Check it out in the project update.

On top of that we've received new pictures from half a world away, from our friend Ross in New Zealand. We've had a few updates of his progress on his Yamaha YL1 over the months. Well, now that time has come, the bike is fully restored! It's a real pearl.

03/04/2010
Hi Everyone,
After two weeks pretty much spent on the road and with work up over the ears it's that time again, time for another update! Since the last update I've not only been stuck on a train in a snowstorm, we've also got a whole lot further on the museum.

The entire ceiling is insulated with mineral wood and prepared for drywall. So far we've even managed to get about two thirds of the drywall in place! We've also build a new wall around the waterpump and accumulator of the property. The next step is to get the remaining one third of the drywall in place, plaster over the screws and get a layer of paint on it. When the weather warms up enough we'll cast the floor. Then all that is left is to run the electricity and get the motorcycles in place. It's not done overnight but we're getting there!

On top of that the guys from Yamaha Center were here today and delivered three new objects from the UK including one of Andy Noble AS3s with 3000km on the meter. They also took the last two AS2Cs (the red and the orange) along with the 'AS2 'Drive''. We really need to get the museum up, we're running out of space!

Hi,
Happy valentines day, hope the day has been good to you so far! Today is a day for the heart, that is why this day is the perfect day to unveil our latest project which will be our main focus the coming weeks. We're doing an AS3 for the band Titan, a young melodic rock band with great potential! This project will be a bit different from all our previous projects and we hope it will help them! Check out the project update.

Be sure to check them out at www.titantheband.com or www.myspace.com/titantheband. They're a new band and as always with new bands it's a struggle to get out and get heard, so do your part if you like them: send the links to your friends, coworkers and families. And if you really like them you can purchase their EP 'Steps' and help some musicians out! Links to stores can be fount below. Take a listen to two of the tracks from the EP below as well!

Hello,
The update today is actually a four parter. It could have been a five parter but instead you get four now and one later!

Starting things of: we got a brand new side cover for the orange AS2C in the mail from the US, now it is truly complete. Head on over to the project update and take a look.

We got 6 frames back after getting them sandblasted, now they're nothing but clean gray metal. Over the year they will get put back together. Three of them are AS3 frames and three are AS1 frames. All the paperwork to get them registered is ready, all they need is a coat of paint and then we can get started.

Hi,
Due to a snowstorm this update is two days late! This has been the coldest January since 1987, apart from that the only time it has been colder was in 1942. Cold is the word to sum things up!

Even though it has been cold as hell, we've still managed to complete the restoration of the second orange AS2C! Check it out in the project update.

When we first started with our restorations we didn't even think we would find a single AS2C, but thanks to a bit of luck, contacts through the website and a lot of effort we've managed to find a few. Now the last two restorations have both been AS2Cs!

Hi,
Today I have some very exciting and long awaited news but before I get to that let's go over the regular things.

We have a brand new build update on the second orange AS2C, it'll be our main project for the rest of the holidays so hopefully we'll make good progress.

Now to the really important news: Over the past few months I've mentioned that we were in the process of developing replica seats for the AS1 and AS2 models. Well, now we've finally received the finished product! They consist of a fiberglass baseplate that has been molded of the original metal, it's identical to the original except for the material. Not that unexpectedly they use a foam cushion, again molded after the original. And finally they use a fake leather exterion that's been chosen to as closely as possible look like Yamahas original. They are true to the original seats in every possible way.

Now why did we develop these seats? In the beginning our plan was to get enough seats for our own restorations seeing as they are next to impossible to get a hold of. Over the time it has taken us to develop them we've been contacted by quite a few of you who also need seats for your restorations so we've decided to offer them up for sale. Initially we'll send an order for a bunch of seats early next year (second week of january), both for ourselves and also for those of you who need seats.

Those of you who've already contacted us, I'll send out information about the seats to you. If you've contacted us about the seats but don't receive and email from me in the next day or two, send us another email yourselves, I've got quite the list of people to go through :)

For those of you who want seats, send me an email at: joacim@yamaparts.com

Now, the moment you've been waiting for: pictures of the seats!

Hi
After what might apear to have been a longer intermission that normal, we're back for christmas. The truth of the matter is that most of what we've been doing has been behind the scenes type of stuff, not that fun to read or write about...

Well now we have two new projects, or zero depending on how you view it. More than a year ago we got an orange AS2C from England, last christmas we disassembled it but then a lot of other motorcycles came in between. So now after almost a year of nothing we're starting up the second orange AS2C project! As of now not much has happened, we've merely put the frame on the bench, but it's a start! Where last year we disassembled it over christmas, we'll put it back together this year.

And the second new project is also a bit of an old project. We've decided to do a complete restoration on our 'AS1 'Drive'' project. After the great result we got with the 'AS2J 'Drive'' project we felt that the AS1 wasn't quite up to scratch so we've decided to do a complete restoration instead. At the moment we're disassemblind it and sending it to Bassels to get painted, when it returns it'll be blue. Hence the project name: AS1 Blue2. A fun fact is that the very first restoration project we did on the site was a blue AS1, now we've come full circle and are restoring a new blue AS1.

Other than that we received a whole bunch of pictures from our friend Robson in Brazil from a big classic bike meet in Rio de Janeiro. A lot of nice bikes and even more sunshine, something missing in the cold dark north.

We've managed to get a hold of a NOS marine blue fuel tank for the AS3. It's amazing to see what is still out there, all of these parts have been out of production for decades yet somehow parts still in their original box turn up now and then. It's exciting to think about the amount of things that lay gathering dust in storage all over the world. In the end someone either discovers it or it's destroyed by time. I can't help but wonder what we'll find next.

Hi,
You know all those motorcycles we got a few weeks back? Well, now we've completely disassembled every last one of them! All that's left is a mountain of parts. To summarize things: we've got material for a number of new projects, though none that we will start right now, and a ton of spare parts.

We just received two brand new exhaust pipes for our AS3 Europa project from our friend Jean-Louis in France, they even had the original price tags on them: 297 Franc.

On top of that we've repaired a generator for future use, we recently got hold of a new AS1 generator, as a bonus in that trade we got another new AS1 generator that was damaged for parts. It turns out the damage was a crack in the cast aluminium ring at the bottom making it impossible to fit on a motorcycle. Luckily we had a spare ring for the generator, the result: another new working generator.

Hi everyone!
As always when there's a lot of things to do, time just never seems to be enough. However there is always a point when things start to ease up and you find yourself with more time on your hands than you expect, now if that's because you have less to do or if you're just better at getting things done compared to before varies.

The point is that after two weeks of little activity it's time to get moving once more! Ironically we hit a new weekly record in the number of visitors to the site week 42. On average we have more than 150 unique visitors each day with a lot of you visiting more than just once, a number that seemed like a distant dream not long ago.

Now on to the real news! We've put the AS2J 'Drive' back together again and taken it out for a test drive, it runs like a dream. You can see the finished result on the project page along with the same video of the test drive as below. Annoyingly the battery in the camera died about the same time as it started raining so the video ends a bit abruptly.

Hi
It has been a few intense weeks here at Yamaparts, both with the motorcycles and in the rest of my life. We've just had four (4!) new bikes delivered! Two AS3 and two AS1. And three of them are in surprisingly good condition, fit for restoration. One of the AS3s though was a bit worse but it can still be used for parts, it's the one on the bench with the crazy handlebar! But still, overall they are nice, the paint is not terribly faded which is a good sign though you can never know for sure until you open them up!

Unfortunately I have a bit of bad news: due to a bit of a scheduling issue my time is severely limited the coming two weeks so the updates will be a bit further apart and I won't be able to answer all the questions we get as quickly as before but don't fear, I will answer them :)

And before that: the second red AS2C project is complete! We have a full gallery up as well, you can find it here. The nice thing about this AS2C is the fact that all the painted parts apart from the frame and swing arm, the frond and rear fender and the seat are all brand new original parts! Finding the parts are getting harder and harder but we managed to pull this one together!

Hi everyone!
Today we've got a new update on the second red AS2C, it's as good as complete now, just a few missing pieces.

The AS2J we got for the AS2J 'Drive' project recently is turning out better and better. With a bit of cleaning and polish the finish on the side covers is almost as good as new. Granted there's a few scratches here and there but overall it looks great! We'll probably use it as a up and running show bike and drive it to various shows, the regular restorations run better because of their complete overhauls but driving them damages them so it's good to have a bike that won't take a noticeable hit when driven.

Hi,
Today we have two new project updates for you! One of them is on the 'AS3 'Europa'', it's in pieces now and ready to get sandblasted. The other one is a brand new project aptly named 'AS2J 'Drive''. We got a new AS2J from Germany a few days ago, it has only been drived 7000km and is in great condition so we decided that we would get it up and running! We got it cheap as well, it had been listed as Yamaha Baujahr 71 on the German ebay so pretty much no one found it :)

Hi!
Tonight we have two updates, both of which have been plagued with mishaps and ironically so have this update itself. After attempting to upload the pictures for tonights update time and time again to no avail I was extremely close to giving up out of pure frustration. Every time I tried to upload them they would start alright but then loose connection halfway through. Fortunately it worked at last so we could bring you the latest news! We have one update of the 'AS3 'Europa'' and one of the second red AS2C!

Until next time!

Hi,
Tonight we have a whole slew of updates. The final update on the 'AS1 'Drive'' project is in place, the skies cleared up long enough to give me time to take the pictures.

When we started with the walkthroughs a few updates back we used the AS2C we were restoring as the base for them, what we realized is that since the scrambler is different in quite a few places compared to regular model all the walkthroughs were filled with remarks about the differences and became a bit confusing. So we decided that we will use another bike as the base for the walkthroughs and just restore the AS2C as we normally would, that means it'll go a lot quicker :). You can see the update here.

We've also got a new project, the AS3 Europa, we got the bike from Germany which meant it was the AS3 Europa version that was sold in Western Germany. We've received a lot of AS3s from Germany, they have all been the Europa version, but we've always converted them to the regular version. For once we decided to keep is in the original Europa version.

Despite the bad weather we've been having down here we got a quick little video of the AS1 up and running! With the new breakers and capacitors it starts with the very first kick, runs smoothly in idle and revs well. A quick pull of the throttle sends it up on the back wheel, not bad. The funny thing is that mechanically all we did was clean the engine out, replace the cylinder heads and put new spark plugs in place. The cylinder heads were even used ones that we had cleaned before! The carburettors did get a complete overhaul though, they were ok but it's an easy thing to do and usually makes the bike run much smoother.

There is quite a bit of smoke coming from the left exhaust, both the exhaust pipes have been cleaned as good as possible, however since the left cylinder was running a bit off before (It was full of residue of something, no idea what) there is a good bit of oil left in the left pipe. It will burn off with time though :)

A general tip when you've restored one of these old motorcycles: in all the guides and workshop manuals it says that you need to run the first tank of petrol with oil in it, this is because the oil lines are empty when starting the bike for the first time. This combined with the tight fit of a new engine means that it can easily cease and break when the temperature rises because of the added friction.
You can get around this by manually turning the sprocket for the oil pump until you see the oil reach the cylinders (At least it can be done with the Yamaha 125s), then it will be lubricated as usual when you start it, even for the first time. Though it's a good precaution to have some oil in the tank just in case.

08/24/2009
We've got the AS1 up and running! As it turned out it was the contact breakers together with the capacitors that had gone sour. When we took a closer look at it the tips of the breakers were completely worn down. With them replace the bike started on the first kick :)

We'll have a video and some more pictures soon!

Hi everyone,
Tonight we have a a couple of project updates and more for you!

We have a new update on the 'AS1 'Drive'' project, we've hit a snag so unfortunately we don't have it up and running just yet, otherwise we would have had a video of it here.

There is also a brand new project for which you've already seen a preview of sorts, a brand new AS2C, we'll make this one red as well so we've given the project the self explanatory name AS2C Red2. It will also act as the base for our restoration walkthroughs so you've already seen parts of it in the assembling the rear suspension walkthrough with more parts coming in a day ;)

As you know we're always on the lookout for new motorcycles and now with the museum coming ever closer we're looking wider and wider. We were recently contacted by a man with a 1984 RD500, so we went to have a look. It's still in the works but in the meantime you can enjoy some pictures of this little 500cc bike that performed like a 1000cc!

Hi!
Tonight we have an update on our AS1 'Drive' project, we've spent the last week cleaning and polishing it to bring it from a grimy rusted husk to something that resembles what rolled out of the factory. It was quite good to start with but as soon as you peel away the covers you find a lot of problem areas.

You can catch our progress in the project update!

Hi everyone!
Today is the start of something new here at Yamaparts, we've started with our walkthroughs! If you look at the top menu row you can see the new 'Walkthroughs' button between the 'Gallery' and 'Project' tabs. The walkthroughs are of every step in the process and will be filled with what we've learned while restoring. At the moment we've just got walkthroughs of how to assemble and disassemble the rear suspension but there's more coming real soon :)

We also have a new project: a brand new AS1. This one is destined for quite another fate than the other ones we have though. Click through to the project update and read more! The actual update itselft sort of acts like a guide on how to disassemble one of these bikes, there's pictures of every step in the process.

Until next time!

Hi!
It's about time we post some news about the upcoming Yamaparts Museum! We've gotten the demolition part of the museum done, the old ceiling from early 20th century is torn down to exposte the wooden beams that support the upper part of the building. Because the top had been used as hay storage for more than 100 years, a lot of dust and straws had slipped through the cracks of the floor on to the ceiling, when we tore it down we got a face full of dust! All the boards of the ceiling were covered in between 5 to 15 cm of dust! To top that of: because this was hay dust it itched madly when you got it on you. After the boards were down all that was left was to remove all the hundreds of nails that were stuck in the beams. A lot of the heads on the nails had rusted away as they were exposed to a lot of moisture when animals were kept in the building making them a pain to remove.

The floor had been sledgehammered down in order to allow for a new floor to be laid. The walls have been patched and painted with several layers of white paint.

All in all the rooms is ready to become a museum, we've still got a good bit to go, the new ceiling has to be built, the floors fixed, all the electricity wired and all the bikes moved there but we're on our way!

Hi everyone!
Today we have big news, not only have we started a brand new restoration project we have our Honda CB750 up and running!

The honda arrived almost a year ago however we haven't had it started until now! As the key turned in the ignition the bike started right away. It runs beatifully and looks stunning. It's restored by our friends over at Beezeees to better than original condition. The model is a K2 from 1974. We'll have a brand new gallery of it before too long, Until then we have a video of it up and running over at Yamaha Center.

The project is an AS2J, as of yet we haven't decided how we want it so for now it'll be known simply as '6'. You can see the latest update here.

Below are one picture from when we had the bike up and running yesterday and from last year when it arrived.

Hi!
Today we've got the final gallery of our bike triad up on the site! The red AS3 that Peter Spicer restored a few years back has gotten a tune-up! It's in full running condition aswell, just turn the key and kick away. You can see the full gallery here.

The previous restorations in the project tab has now moved to the completed projects tab to make room for new ones, more on that tomorrow :)

Hi,
The gallery of the second orange AS2J is up and looking extra crispy! You can find it here. Expect the gallery of the red AS3 shortly.

Not that we're done with our earlier projects we will get started on our walkthrough, we'll probably have running updates as usual and then organise them into a complete picture!

Hi everyone!
I Hope you're enjoying the summer, because we sure are, the temperatures are up and the sun is shining! We've completed the blue AS1C, it was as good as done in the last update but now we've gotten the last few pieces in place, you can see the last update here.

On top of that we've got the first of the three upcoming galleries done: the first bike up is, fittingly, the blue AS1C. We started of shooting the pictures outside in the sun, unfortunately some problems with firing the flashes to lighten the shadows on the bike meant we had to move it inside for the detail shots. That meant that instead of basking in the sunshine for a few hours I was confined to a small room with no windows and lacking ventilation for crawling around with a camera. Needless to say it got ridiculously warm in there! The end result more than justifies the temporary inconvenience, the bike is looking insanely good! You can see the gallery here.

We've also recieved pictures from Alan in South Africa of his FS1, be sure to head over to the friends section and take a look, it's a real pearl.
Until next time!

Hi,
Today we've got a brand new update on the blue AS1C, it's complete apart from the side covers on the fuel tank. This means we're in a situation we haven't been in before, we now have three bikes that are about to be fotographed for the gallery and each one of them is a different AS model! We have the blue AS1C, the second orange AS2J and the red AS3. The reason for this is that we've rebuilt our workshop! During the last weeks we've had contractors here who've installed new equipment for us, now they are done and we can get back to building more efficiently again :)

We've also recieved quite a lot of pictures from you during the last few weeks so we have a new updates in the friends section, you can see Michael Vallejos AS2C, Ray Conways AS3, Russel Nelsons AS3, Simon Watts AS1 and last but not least Tom Christensens AS3!

Now that summer is here we'll start working on our restoration walkthrough, we'll post the updates as we go along in the coming weeks!

Until next time!

Hi everyone!
It has been longer since last update than we would have hoped, hopefully this will make up for it :)

Two of the bikes are completed! Both the second orange AS2J and the red AS3 with galleries on their way in the near future so keep your eyes peeled.

During the summer we plan on doing a complete walkthrough on restoring a bike with every last detail described, like a service manual but more comprehensive complete with a lot of pictures and all our special knowledge! It'll be done sometime during late summer or early autumn, something to look forward to!

Hi!
At the moment we're extremely close to completing three different projects but we're just not quite there yet. Each project is waiting for parts and they're all different parts! The second orange AS2J is waiting on the engine, the blue AS1C is waiting on the fuel tank and side covers while the red AS3 is waiting on the rear fender but great news: all of them should be ready in a week of two, then we'll have a massive update in the gallery just in time for the summer!

In the meantime you can check out the progress in the projects: AS1C, AS2J, AS3.

Hi,
Today we have a couple of new updates. A while ago we recieved a new AS3, now we've disassembled it! It contained a few nice surprises and a lot of old oil...
You can find the update here, since we haven't decided how we will restore it yet you can find it in the general project tab but as soon as we've decided we'll move it :)
A fun thing about it is the handle, it's one of those special heightened ones. It lowers the performance a lot because of the extra air resistance but it gives a special touch of the 70's!

We have also got a big update on the blue AS1C, you can find it here.

Hi!
During this weeked Yamaha Center had their annual Yamaha days and we were there! A lot of people came and talked with us and took a look at some of the bikes. It's always great to meet other restorers and motorcycle enthusiasts.

We've also got quite a lot done with our own bikes, we've got a new update on the red AS3 and a big one on the blue AS1C!

A few weeks ago we got two new AS2Js, one of them was in worse condition than the other so we decided to harvest it for parts, you can see the entire process of disassembling it in the project section.

We snapped some pictures at Yamaha Center while we were there, who knows, maybe you'll see yourself in one of them? As a bonus we got two brand new tires for the AS2J we're restoring, straight from cold storage at Yamaha in Japan!

Hello,
Although it may not show on the site, we've been quite busy lately. First, we've got one new build update and we're starting up a brand new restoration! We've got a bit more done on the blue AS1C and we've decided to give Peter Spicers AS3 a tune-up, over the coming weeks we'll disassemble it, clean and modify it to european spec!

In similar news, we've just recieved two new objects, one blue AS2J and one which is a colour I can't quite place...

We haven't decided what to do with them yet, but we'll probably make at least one custom like the yellow AS3. A fun thing is that the original registration came with one of them, you don't see them every day.

We've also moved our restoration room, so now you'll get a brand new backdrop in the restoration pics! (Those of you who've been reading us since the start will recognize the room as the one we shot the earliest galleries and projects in).

The one part we've been having problems getting for our restorations have always been the seats, they deteriorate over time and are hard to restore. Seeking a solloution to the problem we came to no simple answers, so we decided to do something drastic! Over the past weeks we've been in contact with a replica seat manufacturer, together we've been developing replica seats for the AS1 and AS2 (with AS3 on the way...). They're almost done with just a few minor fixes left to the attachment. The base is fiberglass, molded after the original base. They're pretty much the closest thing you can get to a NOS seat.

Hi!
Today we've got a lot of goodies for you! We have two new project updates, one on the blue AS1C and one on the second orange AS2J, be sure to check them out.

We've got a brand new gallery of the first orange AS2J, you can find it here. Since the AS2J is done now, the project is in the completed projects directory. We're fast running out of space, that's why the AS2J is photographed sideways, we sorely need to get the museum up and running. In the meantime we're gonna take part in the motorcycle days at Yamaha Center in Helsingborg again this year, we'll be there with a lot of the 125's and a few heavier bikes aswell! Make sure you stop by if you're nearby, they will have a lot of special offers and you'll get a chance to see our bikes up close and personal.

We'd also like to congratulate our master painter Bassel, his son was born during the week!

As a last bonus we lined up the three latest completed bikes, all of them will be at Yamaha Center.

Just as promised we still have an update this weekend, we've got a small one on the second orange AS2J project and a bigger one on how to convert an AS1 front fork to an AS1C front fork in the blue AS1C project. We'll be back next week with a bigger one, hopefully a gallery!

Hi!
Today, or rather yesterday if you noticed, we have a quadruple update barrage - 4 updates in 1!

The first orange AS2J is off the bench, the only thing missing is the headlight, the project can be found here. As the first orange AS2J rolled of the bench the next orange AS2J went up. The project has been slumbering since summer but now it's time to get rolling, it would have been too confusing to restore two orange AS2Js at once...

We've also got a brand new project and a quite rare one at that. We have managed to get our hands on an AS1C. On top of that it is a 1968 model, one of the earliest made. Over the coming weeks it'll grow on the bench, you can see the project here (it will be blue by the way).

One of our friends, Peter Abelmann, in Germany has sent us pictures of his Yamaha collection. The pictures brings summer to mind, an extra bonus when everything is cold and grey.

Today we have a massive update on the orange AS2J for you, it covers both how far the restoration has come and how to assemble the front brake.

We've got a handful of new things tonight. Our friend Per Bjølsand sent us some more pictures, his AS1C is done now and there's also some pictures of his CS3!

There are two new build updates aswell, we've completely disassembled the orange AS2C so now we can get another new project on the bench. We've also got quite a lot done on the orange AS2J, it's starting to somewhat resemble a motorcycle now.

Now let us be frank here for a while, we haven't gotten as many updates up on the site as we would have liked to, both of us have been busy all winter getting things ready for the spring. Now that things are returning to their normal pace we'll be getting back on track with the updates :)

Hello everyone!
The update tonight is a bit smaller than last weeks but all the more important. Work is starting on two new bikes at the same time! Both the first orange AS2J and the second red AS1 has gone on the bench simultaneously. Work on the blue AS2J is currently on hold, we're waiting for some parts :)

We've also had a slight shift of the projects, the yellow AS3 project and the orange AS2C project are now located under completed projects. I can recommend checking out the yellow AS3 project if you're about to restore a bike, it's a part for part pictoral walkthrough of the restoration process. Hello everyone!
Tonight we have some great news! There are two new arrivals here at yamaparts, one currently orange AS2C that's going to become red and one red AS1 that's going to become a blue AS1C. The AS1 was restored by Graham Head a few years back and is still in great condition. It runs smoothly so just for fun we made a video with it:

The orange AS2C is on the bench right now to be disassembled and while it's there it has taken the second blue AS2Js place. But don't worry, there's a new update on the AS2J project tonight on the things that went on before it went of the bench. In the news gallery today you can see both the AS2C and the AS1.

Hello everyone!
As some of you may have noticed we've had some database problems on the website yesterday and early today so the site has been unavailable from time to time. Hopefully all that is fixed now so the site should be back to it's stable self again. Unfortunately this meant that the news update that was supposed to go up yesterday only got half finished before the database broke down while I was writing the general news update. So here it is today instead!

The parts for the yellow AS3 has come from Bassel, the paintjob is truly stunning. So we have a massive update on the yellow AS3 project (the biggest project update so far). As a quick teaser image before you click through to the project, here's the side cover :)

Hello everyone!
Tonight we have another project update and some unrelated news. There's another new update for the yellow AS3, this time mostly detailing how to attach the exhaust pipes. It's really starting to look nice :)

As I wrote a while ago we've recieved requests about doing a walkthrough of an engine rebuild, well the engine has been disassembled and is ready to be put back together so you can look forward to that in the near future!

Hello everyone!
Today we have a couple of big updates, a massive update on the yellow AS3 and a smaller update on the second blue AS2J. The special thing is  that the AS2J has gone back on the bench only it's not the same one it left...

We've just recieved another motorcycle lift from Peter at Checkray! They're truly a lifesaver when you're working on a bike, at the very least they are a backsaver when attaching heavy parts. If you need one yourself, go to www.checkray.se.

We have gotten a few email from people wondering about fuel tank badges with gold-coloured letters for the AS1 and AS2, the thing is that Yamaha has only made silver-coloured ones. The silver colour was made with pigments that faded when exposed to sunlight, leading to gold-coloured text.

Hello everyone
I'm currently doing some site maintenance, some parts of the website and a few of the galleries will be a bit jumbled tonight and tomorrow. In the end it'll lead to quicker loading times, a more secure website and a lot of time saved when placing the updates in the future. In short: it will be much improved behind the scenes :)
/Joacim

Edit: All the galleries are back up
Edit 2: All the news updates are back up, added a history section where you can see all the news updates, will streamline it in the morning
Edit 3: All the project updates are back, that just leaves the friends section

Hello everyone!
Today we've got a double treat topped with a cherry in store for you. Firstly, the orange AS2C is all done and the gallery can  now be seen in the collection. It's the first bike we've restored where all the painted parts are original from the factory apart from the frame. Usually we have to repaint a sidecover or two but here we've managed to get a hold of brand new parts for everything, it's really a beauty.

Secondly, our friend Miguels carburettors have been restored. We documented the entire process of restoring a carburettor so you can find a step by step walkthrough in the general project section.

And to top it all of, here's a picture of the two latest AS2Cs, the third one is still at Yamaha Center.

Hello everyone!
We've had some new arrivals from England, a Honda CB750 and another AS1. The CB750 has been fully restored by beezeees from the ground up :) The AS1 was restored by Graham Head for a friend of his a few years ago and is in excellent running condition. The pictures are of the unboxing at Yamaha Center when they arrived.

Unfortunately we've run into a bit of problems with the yellow AS3 frame and its stand so it's back at Yamaha Center to get fixed.

Hello everyone!
We're back from our holiday here at yamaparts and ready to bring you all your motorcycle needs! Today we have a number of updates for you; there's a new update for the second blue AS2J, the missing pieces for the orance AS2C have arrived and work has started on what is to be the yellow AS3. Keep your eyes peeled on the AS3 the coming week as we will have frequent updates on it.

We've recieved a lot of emails from people wanting to see a complete engine rebuild so expect a detailed walkthrough with pictures of how to rebuild an engine with lots of tips and tricks in the near future. One tip is to get conservation oil that's usually used for boat engines and spray it in your restored engines (If you're not going to use the motorcycle that is), that'll protect them from internal corrosion.

On top of that we have some more news about the yamaparts warehouse: we've got the power! An electrician was there this week and set everything up so now we got lights, electrical sockets and some heating. On top of that we've got a dehumidifier working around the clock to keep things dry and corrosion free. We've moved all of our used parts out there now aswell. Things are finally starting to get organized and easy to fint :)

Until next time!

Most of this week has been spent sorting more parts over at the warehouse/showroom, it takes a lot of effort but it will be a time saver in the end. We have two quick updates aswell, one on the orange AS2C and one on the second blue AS2J.

Now for the more important news; tomorrow us at yamaparts will go on a two week holiday so this is the last update for that time. We'll be back in the middle of July!

Hello everyone!
As you may have seen the updates have been further apart than usual, well not you'll finally get to see the reason! The first part of the yamaparts showroom/warehouse is done! All the parts that we use for restorations are too much to keep stored at different places and too difficult to organise, the sollution will be to organise them in one place, that way we'll be able to restore bikes even better :)

As the last few things are completed we will start moving the bikes there one by one. The room on the other side of the door is what will become the main showroom once all the remaining pigsties in there have been cleared.

There are also three build updates tonight, all of them orange. The orange AS2C is on the floor, just waiting for the front fender, expect a gallery shortly. The two AS2Js from Germany will both become orange, we've dubbed them orange1 and orange2, you can see their disassemby in the respective projects.

It has been some time since the last update, we've been quite busy with construction work, you'll soon get to see the result!

We've also got a lot of updates, there's a new build update for the orange AS2C: it's as good as done and going of the bench for the next project, expect a new gallery of it soon. Our friend Miguel in Brazil has also sent us some goodies;new pictures of his RD50, you can find them in the friends section, and also a pair of carburettors we will help him restore, you can see the progess on them in the general project section.

We have also got pictures from a new friend in the UK, David Petley, you can find the pictures of his XS650 in the friends section.

Our next project will be disassembling the twin AS2Js from Rainer in Germany. Their oil and petrol have already been drained, that way you don't have to smell them while they're inside.

Hello everyone!
Tonight we have two more build updates, the blue AS2C is completed! On top of that we have a new project, a soon to be red AS1. The AS1 is special for a few reasons, not only does it still have all it's original paperwork, someone has actually changed its engine to a RD125 one from 1973.

At the moment we have a record number of different projects going at the same time, as it is now we've got 6 different bikes we're working on more or less simultaneously!

You can expect a brand new gallery of the AS2C but because of a heavy workload at the moment it may take a couple of weeks to get it all done. Until then here's a sneak preview of the AS2C (see more in the project)

Hello Everyone!
We have a few special things tonight. First and foremost: Yamaparts is now one year old! In this last year we've seen the number of visitors skyrocket, we've gone from very few visitors in the start to about 70 unique visitors each day and dozens of emails each week, and it keeps climbing steadily! The appreciation from everyone is truly a great motivator to keep the site rolling and you can count on us being here a while :) Still, if you have any questions about restoration, or motorcycles in general, don't hesitate to send us an email.

We've got a new update on the blue AS2C project, it's almost done now. There's also a special project update tonight, while working in the future yamaparts showroom I found an old tandem bike in a corner. The special thing about it is that it has an old moped engine bolted to the rear wheel, so our newest project it now: tandem!

Hello everyone!
As you've probably guessed from the lack of updates the last week we've been really busy here at yamaparts, though a little waiting makes the updates all the sweeter!

We've got a new project, the yellow AS3, not a standard colour but hey, you gotta shake things up every once in a while. You can see the latest project update here.

Some really exciting news: 11 of our bikes, the AS1's, AS2's, AS3's, the HS1B and the CS5 are on display at Yamaha Center in Helsingborg, Sweden. You can see the pictures of them below. They'll be on display there until the end of May so if you're in Helsingborg, or driving distance, don't hesitate to take a look!

Work on the upcoming Yamaparts showroom is progressing too, the ceiling material has arrived and the room is about halfway cleared.

We also got a fun yamaparts mail from reader Martin Sääf of him and his AS1 back in the day, one of many Zundap mopeds he has restored and as an extra bonus him and his Yak-52.

Hello everyone!
Tonight we've got a big update! The gallery for the Marine Blue AS3 is up, you can find it here. That means that the longest project to date is completed, it's been in the works since march last year. It really turned out well too, practically all parts are NOS, the exceptions being the frame, lamp housing, oil and fueltanks. Everything down to the very last clip is where it's supposed to be.

Just yesterday we got a huge load of parts back from Bassel, two frames and a lot of frame related parts. One of the frames that we recieved was the one from the orange AS2C, you can not believe that it's the same frame that we sent away to him! Where once there was nothing but rust and dead birds we now have a fully restored frame, truly splendid work!

We've gotten even more emails this week. One from Per of www.fizzyparts.co.uk, a site dedicated to vintage yamaha FS1-E bikes showing a few of the bikes he's worked on and one from Trond who's working on an AS3 himself.

You can see the parts that came back from Bassel, Pers "Fissys" and Tronds work in progress in the news gallery

Hello,
Exciting things have happened today, we've recieved a new addition to the yamaparts collection! An AS2C Scrambler from 1969. It's only been driven about 9000km in all that time and never been tinkered with so apart  from some dust and grime that have built up over the years it's basically in original condition, a prime candidate for restoration :)

The HS1B from the collection is currently on the bench to get a bit of a touch-up before the AS2C goes up there.

First the serious news: in the last few weeks the news updates have been quite sporadic, that's because I (who do the updates and take the pictures) have recently started college and have been quite busy (Ole has been working on the bikes as usual the whole time though). But now the inital period is over and there's more time to be had for the site so we'll get back to the regular update schedule! I've also got some surprised planned for you ;)

Now to the bike part of the update. The blue AS2J is completed! So take a look at the last project update, the project history will be moved to completed projects in the projects menu. The images of it for the collection section are on their way and as always, good things come to those who wait, the images will be ready either this weekend or the next.

The CS5 project is starting up again now that the AS2J is done, so there'll be running updates for it.

And finally, enjoy these pictures of the Kawasakis and AS3s in the collection!

Hello again folks.

We've got a lot of new stuff for you today. The last pictures of the Kawasaki Mach IV has finally been added and on top of that some information on its restoration (or rather some information on where you can find information on its restoration).

There's a new build update on the blue AS2J, it's about as close to completion as it can get without actually being completed.

And finally, a new bike has been added to the collection, a red AS3 restored by Peter Spicer (More pictures are on their way). The bike is in excellent condition and fully functional, it runs like clockwork. Enjoy the updates!

That's right we have some new links, check out Bassel in the link list to the left. He's the man behind all the glorious paintjobs on the site. The paintjobs on the bikes look stunning in the pictures but it's even more impressive in person. So if you need to have some parts repainted, contact him.

Not much has happened this last week except the work on the blue AS2J, it's nearing completion and is looking awesome! More images of the Kawasaki Mach IV are coming in next week (so far there are just the detail images) so you'll get to see how it all looks.

The holiday ended this monday and of course as could be expected, as soon everyone got back to work the sun came. Today it's 26°C in the shade with high humidity and insane amounts of mosquitos from the last month of rain. Lovely.

Anyhow, the bikes are progressing nicely, check out the update on the blue AS2J. The work with what is to become the museum is also going smoothly, currently about 24 cubic metres of wood are being removed from the building, so soon the real renovating can begin.

Today we have some new bike updates on the red AS1 and the blue AS2J. Work is really progressing nicely on the AS2J.

Also a big thanks to everyone at Hotel Ibiscos Garden in Rethymnon, Crete where we spent the holiday. And a special thank you to Spyros who supplied the "fuel" while we were there.

It's returning to business as usual here at yamaparts after the holiday, there are some new updates in the current project section, both for the blue AS2J and for the blue AS3.

Which brings me to the most exciting news, we've found a building to house all the motorcycles where we'll set up a museum! But before that can happen the whole place need to be renovated. At least the ball is rolling and hopefully it'll all be done to the winter or early next year.

A seat for Yamaha AS3 has just arrived from Christian in France, it's in as new condition! You can see one of Christians own bikes in our friends section now so head on over there and take a look.

Another fun surprise is what turned up in the mail yesterday, Jes from oldpartsshop sent me a business card he's done for oldpartsshop with a picture of our Honda CB900.

Now for another bit of news. I'll be on holiday for two weeks starting tomorrow, but don't fear, pictures of the Kawasaki Mach IV 750 will be put on the site during the next week so it won't be two weeks of bike related drought for you :) For now enjoy the pictures of the AS3 seat and oldpartsshop business card.

That's right, bikechange, at the moment storage space is limited so all motorcycles can't be kept here. Therefore the Honda CB900F has been sent off to Yamaha Center for storage and two new bikes brought here! A Kawasaki Mach III 500 and a Kawasaki Mach IV 750. The Mach III was restored by Beezeees so a big thanks to Berne and everyone there!  The Mach IV was restored by Per Olofsson, another fellow bike enthusiast.

Check out the pictures of the Mach III, it's a truly remarkable bike. The pictures of the Mach IV will be done in the next few days so keep and eye out for them :)

There are also new build updates for the Red AS1 and the Blue AS2J.

Here are the pictures of the two Kawasakis arriving and the Honda being taken to Yamaha Center:
